THE CROCHET BACKPACK
A project centered on material experimentation, exploring form and function through the design of a backpack constructed from cardboard and a secondary material of choice. For this, I crocheted together plastic bags, emphasizing sustainability through reuse and iteration.
This project explores material reuse and representation through a series including a constructed backpack, collage, and elevation drawing. The backpack is made completely from cardboard and crocheted plastic bags, transforming discarded materials into a functional object without the use of glue or fasteners. The accompanying fabric collage translates the form into a tactile composition using recycled fabrics, while the technical elevation drawing uses varied line weights to communicate structure, proportion and construction.
