THE CROCHET BACKPACK
A project centered on material experimentation, exploring form and function through the design of a backpack constructed from cardboard and a secondary material of choice. For this, I crocheted together plastic bags, emphasizing sustainability through reuse and iteration.
THE FINAL BACKPACK
The final iteration of the Crochet Backpack is constructed using only cardboard and reused plastic shopping bags, with no glue or external fasteners. The main body is formed from thin, pliable cardboard, while the sides, flap, straps, and hook are entirely crocheted from plastic bags. This project repurposes hundreds of plastic bags that would otherwise contribute to environmental waste, transforming them into a functional, everyday object.
REPRESENTATION THROUGH COLLAGE
A 1:1 scale collage created from repurposed fabric on cardboard to represent the final Crochet Backpack, exploring material reuse and the translation of form from physical object to visual composition.
Created using discarded fabric that would have otherwise been thrown away, the collage continues the theme of material experimentation and sustainability from the Crochet Backpack.
ELEVATION DRAWING
This 1:1 scale elevation drawing is a technical representation of the backpack. The drawing uses varied line weights and visible construction lines to communicate structure, depth, and proportion.
